Change windows server 2012 r2 datacenter to standard free –

Its not working for me, after modifying the registry and running the setup. Worked for me on Accidentally installed the wrong version, then installed all my apps.

With this procedure, downgraded Datacenter to Standard. Just seemed to make sense to change that as well. Sry for typo, any solution for this issue? Works for my Windows Server Domain Controller with changing three!

Windows OS Hub […]. This tutorial is perfect and this is the only one working on the Internet. If you use trial ISO, the first save option will be always greyed out.

And finally couple of reboots, and change of license to mine slmgr. Now will promote DC again, keep fingers crossed! Worked perfectly from Datacenter to Standard. Thank you! Unfortunately, this does not work for us. I have a Datacenter VM that I want to downgrade. Ok, I run setup. I have to enter a license key to continue. I enter the standard key, choose Windows Server Standard, continue and cannot choose to keep data. The same as Sebastian wrote.

Got the solution. But I tried it once more with the general KMS key and changed it later, that worked. You can google for the KMS Key.

That key is normally used with a key management system, a special server in your network. Big Green Man This person is a verified professional. I know you can’t go from evaluation to licensed on a domain controller, but I’m not sure about going from one edition to another it’s really just a product key change. To be safe, you might be better off demoting, changing the key, and promoting. You could always spin up a VM for testing and try. Mike wrote: If your host is licensed with DataCenter you can run as many Standard and DataCenter guests on it as the hardware will handle.

Spice 2 flag Report. OP Justin G. I’m running HyperV core so no licensing gets applied from the host. DragonsRule This person is a verified professional. Spice 4 flag Report. Obsolesce This person is a verified professional. Here are the commands: Get the current edition of what you are running: Text. Because I have a 2 node cluster with proper datacenter licensing for all of my cores.

In this case you don’t need to do anything. As I said earlier, unless you are using a DataCenter specific feature in the guest there is no reason to use the DataCenter guest license for that guest. Agreed with MIke and Kevin, you can mark their answers as best answer: flag Report.

You don’t really need to do anything. All you need to do is assign the Datacenter license to the host. The DC license doesn’t need to be “installed,” it just needs to be “assigned” Spice 1 flag Report. Which is I have asked the post to change the best answer. What’s careful though with changes made to the DC even with in-place upgrade. Read these next License conversion in some operating system releases, you can convert a particular edition of the release to another edition of the same release in a single step with a simple command and the appropriate license key.

Migration means moving from your existing operating system to Windows Server R2 by transferring to a different set of hardware. The table below briefly summarizes which already licensed that is, not evaluation Windows operating systems can be upgraded to which editions of Windows Server R2. In-place upgrades from bit to bit architectures are not supported.

All editions of Windows Server R2 are bit only. Upgrades from pre-release versions of Windows Server R2 are not supported. Perform a clean installation to Windows Server R2. If you do not see your current version in the left column, upgrading to this release of Windows Server R2 is not supported.

If you see more than one edition in the right column, upgrade to either edition from the same starting version is supported. Even in supported upgrade paths from previous retail versions to Windows Server R2, certain server roles that are already installed might require additional preparation or actions for the role to continue functioning after the upgrade.

Consult the specific TechNet Library topics for each server role you intend to install for details of additional steps that might be required. Similarly, you can convert the evaluation version of Windows Server R2 Datacenter to the retail version. Before you attempt to convert from evaluation to retail, verify that your server is actually running an evaluation version.

To do this, do either of the following:. From an elevated command prompt, run slmgr.

Converting existing Windows Server versions – Standard to DataCenter.

When analyzing the server licenses used in our corporate network with a KMS server deployed we found that a more expensive Windows Server Datacenter edition is installed on one of the host. There was an idea to change downgrade the installed Windows Server Datacenter to Standard edition to save money. We did not consider clean Windows Server reinstallation, because some roles are already configured, and additional software with hardware-related licenses had been installed on the server.

Although Microsoft supports only Windows Server edition upgrade using DISM see the article on how to convert Windows Server Evaluation to licensed version , you can also perform a reverse procedure and downgrade the Datacenter edition to Standard one keeping all current settings, installed roles and apps. We strongly recommend to backup your operating system image before performing a downgrade at least through Windows Server Backup.

It is better to transfer the FSMO roles and demote it from a DC to domain-member server before you do it, backup your domain controller and you can restore the DC from a backup in case of any issues. Wait till it is over and after several restarts make sure that Windows Standard edition is now running on the host. Also you can use it to downgrade and update the version, for example from Windows Server R2 Datacenter to Windows Server Standard although it is not recommended either.

Any way to fix this? Its not working for me, after modifying the registry and running the setup. Worked for me on Accidentally installed the wrong version, then installed all my apps. That key is normally used with a key management system, a special server in your network. Therefore, that key is always accepted when installing and is later checked for validity.

In our case, that key cannot be validated and so after reboot Windows is not activated. You can then provide a valid key and Windows gets activated. Hi there — thanks for your guide. Hi We were able to complete these steps successfully. Just struggling to activate windows now… we get the following error code: 0xB. Alternatively, i have tried to clear the key with CMD and input a legitimate key for Server Standard and getting the following error code: 0xCE Changing both keys — done.
